Workshops FAQ

We try to be as accommodating as possible, so if it’s for a special occasion or you've missed out on saving a spot, just send us an email at nikki@nikkidesignco.com and we’ll see what we can do.

Our workshops are held at our chill cafe + studio venue at Clock On/Off in Tempe, NSW 2044

Driving? There's ample parking on the side streets: Station St, Young St and Hart St.

Catching a train? Closest train station is Wolli Creek, with a 12-minute walk to the studio.

Our calligraphy workshops are hosted in-person at our Sydney cafe + studio and cost $150 per person (includes a personalised calligraphy kit to take home) 🥰

Our workshops have a maximum capacity of 20 people to allow enough time for 1:1 coaching within a group setting.

Mate, you should see my handwriting when I’m not consciously creating calligraphy and am just taking notes on the daily 😂

Your handwriting doesn’t have to be perfect to do our workshop and yeah, so what if your calligraphy sucks at first? (I sucked when I first started calligraphy too!)

YES you absolutely can do our calligraphy workshops even if your handwriting is not the best. That is because calligraphy is a conscious art form, which forces you to slow down, pay attention and be intentional about what and how you are writing.

Also, when you come to our workshops, you’ll score some seriously invaluable in-person coaching to arm you with tried and tested calligraphy techniques to help you succeed in your calligraphy journey.

Yes you can. Our calligraphy workshops are suitable for both left-handed and right-handed calligraphers. This is why we use the Moblique 2-in-1 calligraphy pens at our workshops too, as this allows anyone to learn calligraphy with its interchangeable straight (if you’re left-handed) or oblique (if you’re right-handed) function - sweet! 

Just your enthusiasm homie! No need to bring anything at all, as we provide everything you’ll need to participate in our workshop, with all attendees taking home their very own calligraphy kits too - noice!

We offer 2 calligraphy workshops to choose from - Beginners or Intermediate.

Choose our beginners calligraphy workshop if you:

• Are new to calligraphy and want to learn the basics of modern calligraphy, how to get started and what tools you’ll need
• Wanna do something fun + creative + chill - calligraphy is a great way to get your ‘me time’ in!
• Always wanted to learn calligraphy but don’t know where or how to get started

Choose our intermediate calligraphy workshop if you:

• Have completed our beginners workshop (or a similar workshop elsewhere), loved it and want to level up and learn more
• Comfortable achieving thin upstrokes and thick downstrokes and ready to focus on connecting letters to form words
• Comfortable writing the alphabet and want to refine how your letters look
• Want to come back for more calligraphy, coffee and good company! 

Good question. If you're wearing white, please take care not to get ink on your clothes, as ink will stain clothing permanently and cannot be removed. I'd recommend wearing dark colours and please be careful not to get ink on your clothes (or your gorgeous Prada bag!)

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in our workshops. Sorry kids!

You're ready for the intermediate workshop if:

• You have taken one of our beginners calligraphy workshop session (previously called 'Introduction to Modern Calligraphy') and know how to set up and write with your calligraphy pen using sumi ink.
• Know how to write the alphabet in calligraphy
• Able to create thin upstrokes and thick downstrokes to create letters
• Have completed a similar beginners calligraphy workshop or course elsewhere

Not at all! If you have taken a similar beginners calligraphy workshop or course elsewhere, and are confident with how to create basic letters in calligraphy, you are more than welcome to enrol in our intermediate calligraphy workshop sessions.

We can come to your venue of choice, or we can host your event at our cafe + studio venue in Sydney.

We host calligraphy workshops for birthdays, hens parties, corporate team-building days and more.

If you cannot attend a workshop, please notify us via email at least 5 days before the workshop date and we will do our best to reschedule you into another date if possible and only if we have our minimum numbers already met for the current workshop, and if we have an available future workshop date.

No refunds once you've purchased your workshop ticket, so please ensure you can attend the date before committing to purchase. Tickets are transferrable, so you are welcome to give your ticket to someone else to attend in your place if you cannot attend. Thanks so much.
