Share
Ever wondered if your pen could actually pay the bills?
Keep reading - your calligraphy might just be your next income stream!
1. Create and sell personalised products
If you enjoy crafting and making stuff, this is a good one to explore! I’m talking personalising stuff to make money, then selling on Etsy or better yet, sell it on your own Shopify website!
Here’s what I mean:
Use a Cricut or Silhouette cutting machine to create baby signs, mugs, hoodies, bridesmaid gifts, lunchboxes, stickers, curated gift boxes - there’s literally so many things you can make!
Did you know you can use Procreate -a powerful graphics app - to create your own digital calligraphy and incorporate it into your designs?
2. Offer wedding stationery and signage
Okay, I might be a little biased since it's how I got started, but launching a wedding signage business is such a great way to start building a second income!
Use your calligraphy skills to create hand-lettered invitations, addressing envelopes, menus, place cards, welcome signs, seating signs, table numbers and other wedding and event stationery and signage.
Expand your offer by working on commissions and special bespoke requests from your clients.
This enables you to charge more for these custom offers as they are unique! Which means you can take fewer clients and make more money at the same time (bye burnout! 😎) - brilliant right?!
What you can offer:
✨ wedding vows
✨ first wedding anniversary gifts like poems, love letters
✨ family heirloom pieces and other keepsakes
✨ client-specific commission - based requests
3. Sell digital products
Turn your lettering into printable quotes, wedding sign templates, menu templates, planner pages - anything you can think of that you can create and sell as a digital download!
Sell them on Etsy or your website and make money while you sleep💸
4. Teach calligraphy workshops
If you don’t mind a little bit of public speaking and want to share your calligraphy knowledge, you can look into teaching calligraphy workshops in person or online, live or pre-recorded!
You can offer 1:1 or 1:many depending on your business goals, how much time you can dedicate to this type of work, and what your current situation is.
Once you’ve selected a sustainable business model, it’s a great way to diversify your income!
5. Live calligraphy and engraving for brands
Fancy lettering for luxury brands like Dior, Hermes, or Chanel?
Personalisation is BIG right now. Offering live calligraphy and engraving for brands and businesses can provide you with a great income stream where you get to personalise merch for brands at their in-store events, PR launches or company parties!
Starting a calligraphy business can feel overwhelming…
